Second hand SLR?
Hi, i’ve found a second hand canon eos 300d (sold in the US as canon digital rebel) for 250€.
The price seems good to me as it’s sold here for over 300€ on ebay, but do you think is good idea to get a second hand slr?
What should i look on the camera to see if it’s in good conditions?
Understanding the concerns of others who have answered, I would, however, support buying a used SLR. There are tons of GREAT used SLRs out there, both film and digital. The advantage of buying used is that you can get a ton more camera for your money. Lots of folks use a “new” camera for a fairly short period of time and then upgrade to the latest and greatest (especially in DSLRs). I personally picked up a Canon EOS 20D for about $700 (US) while they were still on the shelves for $1200 new. It has worked flawlessly. I would suggest ebay, but closely read the ad and description of the equipment. Many folks will estimate the usage the body has had and generally speaking, folks are pretty honest. I’ve never had a bad experience that way and have purchased 2 film bodies (ESO 10S and 630) and the DSLR used. Again – you’ll get a ton more camera for the money going used than “new”. Features matter, not “age”. For less money, I got a body that shoots at up to 3200 ISO at up to 5fps, while my peers who bought the “new” digital Rebel for about $200 more than my “used” 20D can’t get the shots I can.
The newest and shinest camera body aren’t worth much if your pictures are blurry! (Especially if you’re doing any type of exisisting light (no-flash) and/or sports photography. I’m shooting gymnsatics meets – no flash allowed, fast action – the right equipment makes ALL the difference!)
Do yourself a favor and save up a little if you’re convinced you’ve got to buy new, or “buy up” in a used body for the same money – you’ll be much better off in the long (and short) run!
